MATESA KNUST: First General Meeting for 2019/2020

On Thursday January 23, 2020, the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Students' Association (MATESA KNUST) held its first General Meeting for the 2019/2020 academic year.
The meeting, which should have come off somewhere last semester but couldn't happen due to many impediments, finally came to pass at about 2 pm on Thursday.

With a little above 800 students in the Department, nearly 200 were present for the meeting, which was somewhat encouraging compared to former times, though many students could not make it.

After an opening prayer from Ms Sylvia Akar, Mr Afari Samuel, MATESA Vice President, gave the opening remark, rolling forth the purpose of the meeting.

The MC, Emmanuel Sey, who is also the MATESA PRO ensured that the meeting went on smoothly.

Committee heads were called forward to introduce their members to the General Assembly.
HoD and Patron of MATESA, Dr Emmanuel Gikunoo addressed the students and also answered pertinent questions they had.

Amidst other activities at the meeting, students were given the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions that will help push MATESA forward.

The Editor, Mr Bright Rockson, was also called forward to address the students. He talked mainly about the Notice Board (which has become almost obsolete due to social media), upcoming editorial activities and about MATESA's social media platforms, stressing the need to follow and like our pages.

Ms Hilda Kafui gave the closing prayer after a closing remark from Mr Jude Kpare.

Of course, item 13 was guaranteed and delivered as promised.
The New President
Following the announcement of the resignation of President Thomas Atariba, the Judicial Commissioner, Mr Daniel Boakye Konadu, swore in the Vice President, Mr Afari Samuel as the new president of MATESA in the presence of the General Assembly.

Mr Afari Samuel gave a brief inaugural speech and touched on a number of activities planned for the semester.

The meeting came to an end some minutes after 3 pm.
