The Chemistry between Matter and Communication

[Opinion - 5 min read]

In this article, I use communication and language; matter and material interchangeably.

Basically, both are related in this way – without matter, there is no communication, meaning that matter is the object of communication.

The aim of this write-up is for us to appreciate the fact that communication is a key factor in our daily living and hence we must pay critical attention thereof.

Let's understand some underlying terms herein as we move on.

Communication is the means by which different matter relate with other; it can be verbal or non-verbal, interpersonal or intrapersonal, etc. We communicate mainly through our actions, speech and thoughts.

Matter is what makes up the physical world; the things that can be seen or felt, including people and other material in the environment.

Having gotten these, let us now look at how communication (language) affects material (matter) in these four well-known areas: Business, Journalism, Governance and Relationships.

It is not unusual that a buyer may purchase more stuff if warmly attended to by the seller. On the other hand, when the seller shoots a cold glance (is kinda rough), the buyer may from henceforth terminate transactions with that seller.

Moreover, customers may end business with a bank, telco, or other firm for poor services rendered. These among many are examples of the results of miscommunication in business enterprises.

Tackling the area of Journalism, producing  well-reported and integrious content is a shortfall in most media houses today, especially those based on the internet.

They would usually publish eye-catching yet unverified or untrue reportage to tarnish the image of others or just for people to visit their websites, largely for monetary gains.

They therefore distort the truth and mislead readers before what is right may be later known. This big anomaly has shown dire outcomes, with some of the media entities being sued in court for defamation and other offences.

Now, coming to the realm of Governance, we see the mayhem caused by politicians who promise the electorate good things and do otherwise after the people blindly elect them.

The consequence of their abrupt turnaround after altering their language is the suffering of the common people.

In another realm, a miscommunication between superpowers could set off a nuclear holocaust, causing widespread destruction of life and habitat. The 1945 US bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the recent 'WW3' tensions between Iran and the US, clearly depict such a mishappening.

Finally, personal relationships could be terminated when communication breaks bad. Suppose a patient commits suicide upon his doctor revealing some confidential personal data to a third-party.

Likewise, discord grows in the family when members are not in good terms, which is largely due to poor or sometimes no communication.

Many a time, people divorce or break up due to ineffective communication between them. Such victims can testify much.

These few examples among many show that communication is extremely important in our everyday dealings. This is because we spend most of the time talking, writing, speaking, even dancing, moving, thinking, reading (as you are doing now), among others.

Humans dominate all other matter on earth, and even have the power to influence extraterrestrial activities.

We must therefore strive to improve our communication in every aspect of life. All other matter look up to us for security and supply: animals, trees, etc.

We must uphold and esteem such essential qualities as warmness, fair play, integrity, loyalty, honesty etc. The seat of our speech and action is our mind. We must thus endeavour to ensure it's healthy, from time to time.

We must learn to act right, listen consciously, speak well of and think proper about others. We must as well learn to address offences amicably: in the most peaceful way.

You know, even God expects us to seek peace with Him and amongst ourselves. Let's get the foundation rebuilt, and begin the 'Communicate-Well' revolution and be the change we want to see while carrying the mission on.

The Quality of Locally-manufactured Cornmill Grinding Plates

Corn mill A KNUST research has revealed people who consume corn-related foods risk contracting all kinds of cancers According to the research, the locally manufactured machine used to grind the corn into dough food wears off faster into the dry maize, thus contaminating it. A study by two lead researchers at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has revealed that consumers of corn-related foods risk contracting all kinds of cancers. The research was undertaken by Prof. Kwofie, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering (former) of the College of Engineering, and Dr. Anthony Andrews (now Professor) , the Head of Department (former)  for Materials Engineering . The study found that the metals used for the milling plates usually wear off when the food products are being grinded. This, the study said, opens consumers to the risk of contracting cancer, since the metals contain 'iron overloads' which are poisonous. ...

WHAT MINDSET HAVE YOU?--By Isaac Asiedu

As Henry Ford said, ‘‘W hether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right ’’ . Whatever your mindset is, it affect s  you. Your mindset is the lens through which you perceive the world. And th is lens affect s  how you live and the choices you make every day. The quality of your life is defined by the quality of your mindset. Your life can never get any better than your mindset. Your mind is a powerful thing and the stories you tell yourself and the things you believe about yourself can either prevent change from happening or allow new skills to blossom. According to Carol Dweck, a researcher at Stanford University, there are two types of mindset and the difference between these two mindsets and how they impact our performance are explained below : The first mindset is the fixed mindset .   S tudents with this mindset believe that their basic abilities, their intelligence, their talents are just fixed traits. They have a certain amount and that is that, and th...

When the Lass I was Loving for Years Finally said Yes!: Episode 3

Episode 3 (Final): The D-Day Presently, both of our families were aware of our relationship. Akos was an only daughter, but not an only child, as she had a brother who was as fine as herself. It seemed to me that fineness ran throughout the family--from dad to mum to children. Akos was much like her mother, and her brother, Yaw, who was older than her, took the form of her father. I had met Yaw a couple of times on campus, when he used to come visit her dear sister. As time elapsed, I became a family friend to the Sarpongs. The D-day finally arrived. I went to Akos’ residence to pick her up for our much anticipated Friday night time-out. Luckily for us it was a holiday, so we both had time to rest from the week’s busi-ness. Of course, holidays bring some delight to those whose weekly schedules are largely occupied by work or school--and without a doubt, the greater joy goes to our dear students. Operation Neptune  arrived at her residence in a black Chevrolet Cruze...

When The Lass I Was Loving for Years Finally Said Yes!: Episode 1

PC: Pinterest Episode 1: Getting Acquainted I sent her a text on WhatsApp, ‘‘Bae, we’ve got a date on Friday night at Sparkles .’’ I’m sure she would have thought it would be one of our usual rendezvous , where we would chit-chat all night long talking about ourselves, among other matters, and getting a bit amorous sometimes, hahaha . But behind the scenes, something spectacular was boiling . She sent a reply, ‘’OK boo. I’m anticipating and will prepare in advance. Love youuu.’’ ‘’Love you bunch,’’ I responded. I was also preparing ahead for this big day where I would pop the question to the love of my life. I couldn’t wait for that grand day--the D-day--to declare myself to my better half. You could imagine all the sponging  and grooming that would go in on my side; and on the other side too, well, I couldn’t really guess. ’’Anticipate’’ was the only option. Akos was a lovely and comely young woman. She was beautiful in every sense of the word. She was tall (I was tal...

Vibranium - The Wonder of Wakanda

Black Panther wearing Vibranium suit. PC: ucf.edu If you've ever thought that the Vibranium metal used in the Black Panther movie is a real material, you're possibly mistaken. What is Vibranium? Sourced from a meteorite that landed in Wakanda many centuries ago, Vibranium provides the superpower in the main character’s suit, absorbing energy and redistributing it. Vibranium (/vaɪˈbreɪniəm/) is a fictional metal appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, noted for its extraordinary abilities to absorb, store, and release large amounts of kinetic energy. Mined only in Wakanda, the metal is associated with Black Panther, who wears a suit of vibranium, and with Captain America, who bears a vibranium-steel alloy shield which has never been reproduced. Real-world Material In 2016, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies developed a real-world smart composite material that they named Vibranium. The lightweight carbon fiber material for the Hyperloop ...
