Who is Mr.Gideon Asiedu?(Relationship status:dating, broken up, gnashing)
I am Gideon. K. Adjei,a second year materials engineering student. I completed WESS (Wenchi Methodist Senior High School); and I’m gnashing.

Share with us your experience in secondary school. What is the worst thing you ever did in school which you really regret?
Secondary school was fun because in my class, we were few so we knew each other very well and I was a house prefect, technical head and the president of our cultural group. The worst thing I regret of was when my best friend saw a love letter from her girlfriend in which that letter was to be given to me. It was awkward, and due to that, I was not able to speak comfortably to ladies.

Why did you choose KNUST over the other universities?
It’s the only university I wanted to study in, since childhood.

Materials Engineering, were you given the programme or you chose it? If the latter, what influenced your choice?
I chose it.

Have your expectations with respect to both KNUST and Materials Engineering been met?
Yes.

Given the opportunity to change something about the department, what will it be?
I don’t know what is happening, but I’ll improve our organization of sports.

Share with us some rumours you heard concerning life on university campus.Verify them.
Being a tertiary student means you are grown up and you can do whatever you want to do but must follow the rules.

Assuming it is mandatory to choose a spouse from Materials Engineering, who will she be? Tell us about her.
Right now, I don’t know.

Which of the members of the current executive board do you really admire? Why?
The General Secretary, because she is an open person and also tries to come out with a solution to situations.

What do you intend doing with Materials Engineering in future?
I have many thoughts in mind but right now, I'm thinking of working as a lab technician (testing the toughness of a material)

Do you have any special awards?Share with us (if any).
Certificates: Mmember of the Chaplaincy Board in JHS, House Prefect, President of Cultural Group, Technical Head of AGCM, Discipline student all in SHS; and finally, I won a silver medal in hand ball and volleyball, 2018 interhall games in KNUST.

Which extracurricular activity (ies) do you engage in mostly?
Sports (Soccer).

Where do you want to see yourself in the next decade?
Great mentor.

SPORTS
As the only substantial second year in the Materials Engineering team in the just ended Engineering Premier League(EPL), what was your experience?
It was fun and we were united which gave me the opportunity to meet many of my seniors.

What do you think went wrong that led to the eviction of Materials Engineering from the EPL?
Lack of confidence and communication after an early goal against us.

Aside playing as a fullback, where else can you play comfortably? Who is the toughest winger you have ever played against?
Right or left winger will be the comfortably place for me and also the mechanical engineering right winger was the toughest player.

Who is the player of the team whose presence in the line up boosts your morale? Whose presence is vice versa?
As a defender, I choose Laporte and the vice versa is none.

Name your preferred strongest line up of the Materials Engineering team.
Sammy(keeper), Yevoo(right back), Gideon (left back), Laporte and Gakpo(4 & 5), Naked(8), Dadzie(10), Arturo(6), Chaptez(11), Declan(7) and Kuban(9).

Given the chance to choose either Football or Engineering as a full-time career, which one will you go for? Why?
Engineering because right now, my main focus is on engineering and football is secondary.

Which team do you support? What influenced your choice?
Chelsea football club. When I started loving football, I saw there was a lot of black players in Chelsea and they were good, and also because of Michael Essien.

What was the humiliating defeat your team (fan) suffered that you can’t forget?
Chelsea against Man City, and they scored us 6.

Give a five man line of your fan team in the order:goalkeeper, two defenders,a midfielder and a striker.
Kepa, James, Rudiga, Kovacic, Abraham.

Tell someone (in the department) something.
This world looks normal but they will tell you a lot of struggles many have passed through but your life is not their lives so determine what you want to do and make sure that it’s a must for you to complete what you started.

Who is your celebrity crush?Why?
Titiana Manaois because I love the words in her songs.

Researchers Discover New Useful Nanostructure for Composite Material

Biwu Ma, professor of chemistry and biochemistry  Florida State University researchers have discovered a novel structure for organic-inorganic hybrid materials that shows potential for more efficient technologies. Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Biwu Ma, and his team have published a new study in the journal Science Advances, that explains how they created a hollow nanostructure for metal halide perovskites that would allow the material to emit a highly efficient blue light. Metal halide perovskites are materials that have shown great potential for photon-related technologies such as light-emitting diodes and lasers, but scientists have still been working to make them more efficient and effective. "The fabrication of new-generation color displays and solid-state lighting requires luminescent materials and devices of the three primary colors: red, green and blue (RGB)," Ma said. "Although multiple ways of color tuning have been demonstrated for perov...

The Natural Polymer That Controls Life - DNA!

Some life-forms on earth. PC: Micro [5 min read] In today's post on MATESA TODAY , we want to learn about a natural polymer (giant molecule) that controls all life-forms on Earth - in plants, animals, micro-organisms, etc. This wonderful material carries the instructions that are associated with the transmission of genetic information: the shape of your nose, the colour of your eye, people's height, their skin colour, etc.  This publication gives us some basic insight into  DNA . Sounds quite biochemical, but it has got the Materials Science aspect too - Polymers; though materials scientists primarily deal with synthetic polymers. But we usually take inspiration from nature to do new stuff, more technically, develop novel products. After all, we call it genetic material ! BASIC TERMS DEFINED Polymer means "many parts" and designates a large molecule made up of smaller repeating units. Monomer is a molecule that combines with other molecules of the same ...

The Reason for The Season

Almighty, you could have snapped us into a blip to avenge for our unruly stubbornness and cruelty. You could have hypnotized us from the beginning of time to follow you with nothing called free will. No urge to disobey, steal or kill. But you chose to send your begotten son. In the beginning, you could have corrected sin and immorality yet allowed men to dwell in their carnality and later show them your sovereignty. Leaving His comfort zone, He came down to live as one of us. He was betrayed for a few denominations, chastised on several occasions but chose our salvation over condemnation. And for our sake He was condemned to death. To the wisdom of man, it was an improper fraction but to God a perfect solution.Though sinless and blameless, He bore the crossed burdened with our sins. Under the Heavy cross bathed in blood and sweat, he fell three times yet didn’t give up. He was poised to accomplish this mission of our salvation. Nailed to the cross, blood oozing from every part o...
