Seater of The Week: El-Freda Narh Kugbajor

Today on Sports Seat, we meet a pretty third-year Materials Engineering student who doubles as the Africa Hall Sports Chair. She tells us about herself, her program of study and sports.

El-Freda-SOTW

Please tell us about yourself(Relationship status:Single, dating, broken up or crushing)

El-Freda Narh Kugbajor is my name, a third year Materials Engineering student and currently in Africa hall. I attended Yaa Asantewaa Girls’ School and I’m an ambivert . I am single. Interesting

Share with us your experience in secondary school.
Life in YAGSS was interesting. I had the opportunity to learn to be a better person. All the sadness, fun and tough moments groomed me to be who I am today. Haha, certainly

Materials Engineering, were you given the programme or you chose it? If the latter, what informed your decision?

Actually, I chose Materials Engineering. A very good friend who is just like a sister introduced the program to me and I had interest in it.

How do you see the programme so far? Have your expectations been met with respect to the programme?

Materials Engineering is a very challenging and tough programme. Some expectations have been met, however others have not.

Why did you choose Knust over the other universities? Have you in any way regretted your decision?
KNUST was a dream school. I just love the school from childhood. I also met prominent people who graduated here and they all encouraged me. I have not regretted being in this school.

What positions have you held so far in your academic life? Which of them challenged you most?
Currently the Sports Chairperson for Africa Hall and formerly the sound engineer/technician back in high school. Being the sports chair has been much challenging.

Got a major non-academic activity? If yes, tell us about it.
Yes, Modeling and Sports. It is something I love. I find it exciting and interesting.

      Any achievement or special awards?
I won a silver medal at the recently held Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games at UoG, Legon. There are other awards I won in high school which space won't permit mentioning (all in sports).

What or who inspires you? Why do you think so?
My mum inspires me more. She never gives up. She keeps on moving forward no matter what. Wonderful

Which extracurricular activities do you usually engage in?
Modeling, singing (chorister) and sports (hockey). Wow

How do you see the department so far?Are there any improvements you would want to see?
I would like to commend the leaders for their good work. Now, most opinions of the students are been taken into consideration. Aside this, our way of learning should be more practical.

When it comes to Materials Engineering, what field are you particularly interested in and why?
I prefer Polymers, plastics to be specific. Managing our plastic waste now is a very big problem; it does more harm than good to our lives. As a materials engineer, I would like to find ways on curbing it since this problem exists globally.

The core of engineering technology, what does this mean to you?
In my opinion, it is the pivot or center of all engineering.

What should we expect from you in the next few years?
Nobody knows what the future holds but I just know the future is bright.

El-Freda as a photo model

     SPORTS
You seem so much engrossed in sports activities, what is the rationale? Are you not concerned about the possibility of an altered body stature a female is supposed to have?
People have wrong perception about ladies who are into sports. It’s all about the individual and how to take care of your body well.

Please tell us about your experiences so far as the Sports Committee Chairperson of Africa hall.
Being a sports chairperson of Africa Hall hasn’t been an easy task. Time management and organizing skills have been mastered well. Inspiring

What sporting event(s) are you really interested in? Who is your favourite sports personnel and Why?
Hockey. Sports Personnel-Alexander Tuffour Frepmong (MEAT). His passion and zeal for the game cannot be measured.

Which football team do you support? What informed your choice?
Barcelona . I love their style and teamwork and of course it has one of the world’s greatest players in there.

Name a five-man line up of your team in the order: goalkeeper, two defenders,a midfielder and a striker.
Ter Stegen-goalkeeper, Pique and Umtiti-defenders, Vidal-midfielder, Messi-striker(forward). Incredible

What is your source of confidence when competing in a sports competition?
Keen desire to attain the GOLD MEDAL after every competition is what drives me most.

Images of you, depicting 'a model' usually circulates with rumours attached, please clarify.
Yes please, I’m a photo model

Engineering as against sports and modelling (if true),what is the correlation?
There is no correlation between them. I just love to model and indulge myself in sports. It keeps me on track. Engineering is going to be my profession.

      Finally,who is your celebrity crush?
Tell us a little about him?
King Promise. I just like his flexibility when singing. He doesn’t force it out. Hahaha

Sports Quiz:What position(s) does a defensive midfielder play on a football field?
      Number 6. Goal there

Please share with us your last words
Don’t ever give up, keep your head up and continue to smile in any situation you find yourself in. Let God guide your path and it shall be well with you. Thank you.

WHAT MINDSET HAVE YOU?--By Isaac Asiedu

As Henry Ford said, ‘‘W hether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right ’’ . Whatever your mindset is, it affect s  you. Your mindset is the lens through which you perceive the world. And th is lens affect s  how you live and the choices you make every day. The quality of your life is defined by the quality of your mindset. Your life can never get any better than your mindset. Your mind is a powerful thing and the stories you tell yourself and the things you believe about yourself can either prevent change from happening or allow new skills to blossom. According to Carol Dweck, a researcher at Stanford University, there are two types of mindset and the difference between these two mindsets and how they impact our performance are explained below : The first mindset is the fixed mindset .   S tudents with this mindset believe that their basic abilities, their intelligence, their talents are just fixed traits. They have a certain amount and that is that, and th...

When the Lass I was Loving for Years Finally said Yes!: Episode 3

Episode 3 (Final): The D-Day Presently, both of our families were aware of our relationship. Akos was an only daughter, but not an only child, as she had a brother who was as fine as herself. It seemed to me that fineness ran throughout the family--from dad to mum to children. Akos was much like her mother, and her brother, Yaw, who was older than her, took the form of her father. I had met Yaw a couple of times on campus, when he used to come visit her dear sister. As time elapsed, I became a family friend to the Sarpongs. The D-day finally arrived. I went to Akos’ residence to pick her up for our much anticipated Friday night time-out. Luckily for us it was a holiday, so we both had time to rest from the week’s busi-ness. Of course, holidays bring some delight to those whose weekly schedules are largely occupied by work or school--and without a doubt, the greater joy goes to our dear students. Operation Neptune  arrived at her residence in a black Chevrolet Cruze...

When The Lass I Was Loving for Years Finally Said Yes!: Episode 1

PC: Pinterest Episode 1: Getting Acquainted I sent her a text on WhatsApp, ‘‘Bae, we’ve got a date on Friday night at Sparkles .’’ I’m sure she would have thought it would be one of our usual rendezvous , where we would chit-chat all night long talking about ourselves, among other matters, and getting a bit amorous sometimes, hahaha . But behind the scenes, something spectacular was boiling . She sent a reply, ‘’OK boo. I’m anticipating and will prepare in advance. Love youuu.’’ ‘’Love you bunch,’’ I responded. I was also preparing ahead for this big day where I would pop the question to the love of my life. I couldn’t wait for that grand day--the D-day--to declare myself to my better half. You could imagine all the sponging  and grooming that would go in on my side; and on the other side too, well, I couldn’t really guess. ’’Anticipate’’ was the only option. Akos was a lovely and comely young woman. She was beautiful in every sense of the word. She was tall (I was tal...

Black Panther wearing Vibranium suit. PC: ucf.edu If you've ever thought that the Vibranium metal used in the Black Panther movie is a real material, you're possibly mistaken. What is Vibranium? Sourced from a meteorite that landed in Wakanda many centuries ago, Vibranium provides the superpower in the main character’s suit, absorbing energy and redistributing it. Vibranium (/vaɪˈbreɪniəm/) is a fictional metal appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, noted for its extraordinary abilities to absorb, store, and release large amounts of kinetic energy. Mined only in Wakanda, the metal is associated with Black Panther, who wears a suit of vibranium, and with Captain America, who bears a vibranium-steel alloy shield which has never been reproduced. Real-world Material In 2016, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies developed a real-world smart composite material that they named Vibranium. History of Man As Determined by The Prevailing Materials Technology of a Particular Era

Compiled by Abena Osei-Anane   [5 min read] The ages of materials technology - PC: pininterest.cl Earth’s beginnings can be traced back 4.5 billion years ago, but human evolution only counts for a tiny speck of its history. The pre-history period where there was no documentation of human activities roughly dates from about 2-5 million years ago to 600BC and is categorised in three archaeological periods: the Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age . These periods are characterised by the prevailing Materials Technology present at a particular time. STONE AGE Getty images The Stone Age was the first age and the longest, from 30,000BC to 3,000BC. This era was marked by the use of stones to make tools and weapons . During the paleolithic period, early humans lived in small caves and were mostly hunters. They used basic stone tools as well as stone axes for hunting birds and other wild animals. They were the first to leave behind art by carving small figurines from stones,...
